Nonkanyiso is a Professional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat) registered with SACNASP. She is currently a PHD candidate at the University of Cape Town doing research on the potential impact of climate change on freshwater macroinvertebrate species. She is supervised by Dr Helen Dallas of the Freshwater Research Center, Professor Jenny Day and Dr Cecile Reed. She holds a Masters Degree in Environmental Management from the University of Pretoria. She obtained her junior degree in Biological Sciences from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, followed by an Honours degree at the same institute. She has 14 years overall working experience at both private and state owned institutions. In the public sector, she worked at the Department of Water and Sanitation and was responsible for undertaking desktop Surface Water Reserve Determinations. In the private sector, she has worked on various environmental projects and obtained skills in Environmental auditing, Water Use Licence Applications, Environmental Impact Assessments, and Waste Management Licence Applications. She also has an interest in wetland delineation and assessments.
