Lily obtained her BSc in Marine Biology and Ocean & Atmosphere Science in 2014 at the University of Cape Town. She went on to study Honours in Biological Science at UCT and graduated in 2015. Lily enrolled in the DST-NRF Internship Programme and joined the Freshwater Research Centre as an intern in April this year (2017). Her mentor is Dr. Helen Dallas. Lily will be involved with general administration work, data capturing and analysis, assisting in report writing and with the communication of social media and scientific communication for the organisation. She will provide secretarial and logistical support at meetings, training courses and on field trips and also plans to familiarise herself with the processes involved in wetland condition assessment and with GIS through its application to relevant projects. This internship represents Lily’s first exposure to freshwater science and while it is still early in the year, she is already captivated and looking forward to gaining experience in this field. Since joining FRC she has completed a SASS5 course and hopes to be accredited as a SASS5 practitioner during the period of the internship.
