Pfananani Ramulifho – PhD student

Pfananani obtained his junior degree (Geography, 2010) and Environmental Science Honours degree (2011) from University of Venda. His journey with FRC started in 2012 when he enrolled for MSc in Hydrology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal under the supervision of Dr Nick Rivers-Moore and Dr Helen Dallas. His MSc study was part of the WRC funded project on adaptability and vulnerability of riverine biota to climate change – developing tools for assessing biological effects. After completing his study, Pfananani joined the Orange-Senqu River Commission as an intern and later promoted to a junior specialist. He also worked as a researcher for the department of Public Works. In 2016, he joined a Research Chair on Biodiversity Value and Change in Vhembe Biosphere Reserve at the University of Venda and has since enrolled for a PhD in Zoology. His PhD study looks at how stream flow and water temperature are influencing structures of macroinvertebrate organisms inhabiting the streams of the Luvuvhu River Catchment. In this current study, Pfananani is working closely with Dr Nick Rivers-Moore as part of the FRC project funded by WRC on environmental water temperature guidelines: bridging the gap between research and implementation.
